Coach's Comments:

Alain is the heart beat of our team, even last year as the lone captain as a sophomore. He provides great energy and effort at all times he is on the court and is a great encourager from the bench. His experience with Nike Team Florida 17U the past two seasons has made him a stronger, smarter, and more confident player. He gained weight and increased his ball skills to help be a more productive player on the floor this year.

NEWS & NOTABLES

November 2011 (from Dave Telep, ESPN.com):CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Charlotte Hoops Challenge was good enough for Charlotte Bobcats owner Michael Jordan to buzz by (his nephew plays for one of the teams). The action at Waddell High School provided a number of seniors and underclassmen a chance to test their skills in an early-season showcase setting. Eye on underclassmen: Alain Chigha (Gainesville, Fla./The Rock) 2013, SF, 6-6, 175 pounds. He's made his name as an energetic wing who attacked the basket. Here, he began knocking down open jump shots. Mid-majors will earmark him and others will monitor his progress now that he seems to be diversifying his offensive game.

September 2011 (from FloridaHoops.com): Nike Team Florida kicked off their annual Fall Workout and Exposure Camp on Saturday in St. Petersburg and 80 college prospects were on hand to display their skills in front of college coaches and scouting services from around the country.  On Saturday it was the Juniors and Seniors turn to take the floor and we take a look at some of the notable performances from the first day of action. Alain Chigha, 2013, SF, 6'7 - This long, active, versatile forward showed his competitiveness on Saturday in St. Petersburg.  Chigha gives maximum effort at both sides of the floor, especially on the backboards.  The 6'7 junior runs the floor well and finishes in transition.  Chigha perimeter skill set is making progress and will round out his game nicely.

September 2011 (from Rivals.com): Nike Team Florida kicked off their annual Fall Workout and Exposure Camp - Alain Chigha, SF - The event's most competitive guy two years running, he's a long and active small forward. The junior is tough in transition and working to improve his skill game.

September 2011 (from SourceHoops.com): Nike Team Florida Fall Workout and Exposure Camp - Alain Chigha – 2013 6’7 WF – Gainesville The Rock: A very smooth wing, Chigha has a quick first step to the hoop as well as a solid stroke along the perimeter.  He needs to get stronger and that sometimes keeps him from finishing as often as he should when he meets up with contact at the rim.  A good athlete with a long wing span, Chigha is tough on the defensive end.

September 2010 (from Rivals.com): As is customary at Nike Team Florida boss Tom Topping's annual "The Workout", the freshman and sophomores took the floor on Sunday. In many cases, Sunday's action at the Wildwood Community Center was our first look at a player. But, we'd seen sophomore wing Alain Chigha before and he more than backed up the good impression he made on us during the spring and summer. The sophomore wing from Gainesville (Fla.) The Rock was probably the best player in camp on Sunday. A total warrior on the floor, he plays with great energy and is a leader. He knocked down some deep jumpers, is good off the dribble and can be quite intimidating to his peers because of his physical approach. At the end of the day he's a physical guy with plenty of high major attributes and potential to get to that level.

September 2010 (from Courtcred.com): Chigha is still very raw, but has improved tremendously.  He never stops running and seems to get his hands on the basketball all the time.  He has tremendous upside because he wants to learn and has the tools to excel.  Chigha guarded four positions on the floor Sunday, has NBA-type rebounding ability, and affects the game in so many ways.  He can shoot the deep ball at this stage in his development, but he is better suited for using his muscular frame to slash to the basket.

September 2010 (from Scout.com): Glenn Feidanga and Alain Chigha are a pair of 2013 forwards. They have energy and good athleticism. Both are re-classed and are now in their age appropriate grouping. Like the energy, want to see the skill and feel develop over the next few seasons. Chigha demonstrated that he's not bad handling the ball.

September 2010 (from Prepstars.com): Alain Chigha (2013), 6-6 WF, Gainesville (FL) The Rock – Definitely the most fun guy to watch was Chigha. He’s an ultra-intense competitor who not only genuinely fist-pumped during games when he made a good play, but also when his teammates made good plays. More than an enthusiastic participant, he’s an impressive, long-limbed athlete who plays with truly superb effort (and stamina). He gets dunks, blocks, boards, loose balls, steals and everything else you could attribute to hustle. His jump shot doesn’t look too bad, either, and his handle isn’t shabby for wing forward. He’s a legitimate high-major prospect.

September 2010 (from FloridaHoops.com): Alain Chigha – Soph 6’7 wing – The Rock: Long and athletic.  His outside shot is streaky but must be respected.  Can put ball on the floor and make plays.  Rebounds and runs floor..

April 2010 (from FloridaHoopsRecruits.com): Alain Chigha – 6’6 sophomore  forward – Gainesville The Rock School – 6 points, 4 rebounds, 1 steal, 1 turnover: Of all the players that hit the floor for NTF this weekend, he may have the most potential.  A natural wing forward, Chinga can put the ball on the floor and make plays out on the wing.  His shot looks good but it is no surprise that it lacks consistency as well as range at this early stage in his career.  Chinga runs the court well, knows how to finish in transition, and is effective on the offensive glass.  He is an improving ball-handler and passer and as he garners more game experience could see time at the wing guard spot.  Defensively, he plays hard, has great length, and is alert for steals and the opportunity to tip balls in the passing lanes.  He is only fifteen and there is talk he may reclassify to the 2013 class.
